You’ve heard the word bandied about in conversations. You’ve heard every motivational speaker mention it, and you’ve even read a bunch of books that talk about it. But do you really know what it is? Do you really, truly, KNOW? Or have you just heard about it, like everyone else has.
We’re talking, of course, about passion.
Let us look at a small story that illustrates this point.
An ambitious man who wants to achieve big things in his life goes to a guru. He tells the guru “I want to be successful.” The guru takes one look at him and says, “Alright. Meet me on the beach tomorrow at 4 AM.”
The next morning, the man manages to rouse himself with great difficulty. But because the guru asked him to, he drags himself, bleary-eyed, to the beach at 4 AM. He sees the guru standing there and tells him “Alright. I’m here. Tell me what I need to do.” The guru looks at him calmly and says “Step into the water.”
At this point, the man is getting frustrated, since he hasn’t really stepped and here’s a man who’s telling him to step into the water instead of showing him the formula for success. But he steps into the water anyway. He goes in about knee deep and looks at the guru for approval. The guru looks at him and says “Deeper.”
This goes on for a while until the man is neck deep in the water. There are waves coming in that wash over his head and leave him gasping for breath. He begins to panic. He sees the guru in the distance and hears his voice “Now, when you want to be successful as much as you want to breathe, THEN you will be successful.”
So, what does this tell us about passion? Passion isn’t a weekend endeavor. It isn’t a hobby that you pick up over the summer and try to while away some time with. Passion is something that gets into your veins, which inflames your entire being, that brings you alive in such a way that your entire consciousness is driven towards achieving whatever it is you are passionate about.
So, how do you generate this kind of passion, you might be asking. Well, there are a few ways, but let us take a look at a very big one.
Setting CRAZY goals
If you’ve been meandering at your desk or your computer for years, looking at articles and half-heartedly dreaming about the day when you will have financial freedom or success, you need to do this.
SET A RIDICULOUS GOAL FOR YOURSELF.
Not challenging, not difficult – RIDICULOUS.
For example, if you earn 30k a month, set yourself a goal to buy a brand-new Mercedes in the next 6 months.
Sounds crazy, right? Even impossible? Great.
Think about it like this, if someone had a gun to your head and you HAD to buy a Mercedes in 6 months or they would pull the trigger, what would you do?
Well, you’d stop searching for memes and wasting your time for YouTube, for sure.
After you’ve done that, after you realize how extraordinary your situation is, you would take some wildly unconventional steps to achieving your objective. Because hey, the clock is ticking, and the gun to your head gets closer to firing every minute.
So what do you do? Quit your job? Move to a new city? Start a new website? Start pursuing the most lucrative option possible that leverages your unique strengths? Absolutely. You might do all of these.
And once the momentum of your positive actions begins to roll down the hill, you will create an explosive, unstoppable avalanche of results that you won’t even realize how crazy a ride it’s been until you reach the goal and look back.
You’d be genuinely passionate and motivated, because you won’t have given yourself any option to slack around or goof off.
Guess what, every single example that you might have pinned to your wall, or quotes from every great man or woman who’s achieved some unbelievable success has come about as a result of some variation of this process.
If you could become a billionaire by doing the same things everyone else is doing, we’d have an army of Zuckerbergs. But we don’t.
The key is passion. The drive. Lighting a fire under yourself until you have no choice but to get up, stop whining, and take MASSIVE ACTION. Whatever your goal is, whatever your area of business is, infuse yourself with passion and set a crazy goal for yourself that leaves no choice but to move forward.
Tick tock. Tick tock. What are you going to do with the rest of your day?
